Are you looking for a new investment opportunity? Considering overseas? Do you enjoy dimly lit castle corridors, wind howling through the rafters and stone cold basements filled with bats? Then boy, oh boy, does Waypoint Real Estate Group have a dream dwelling for you!
Deep in the mountains of Bran, Romania, a castle rich with ghoulish history is officially for sale. It’s a foreboding, ominous, creepy dwelling. No wonder that it is rumored to be the very castle that inspired Bram Stoker’s infamous horror novel, Dracula. Just checking out the video on the official website gave us the heebbie jeebies. Here, we know you want to see it now too, so check it out, but make sure the lights are on Bran Castle.
Originally built in 1212 by the Teutonic Knights the Bran Castle dwelling was a fortress meant to protect the Southeastern Transylvania border from the Cumans and Pechenegs. Over the course of history, the dwelling has gone through several phases of collapse and rebuild, as well as ownership through many hands. Today, the dwelling, which serves as a historical exhibit and tourist attraction, is said to be on the market yet again for the next interested investor. While an official price has yet to be announced the current owners are reportedly considering a first right of refusal rate to the tune of $80 million. They wish to sell the dwelling to someone who will maintain the historical integrity of the landmark.
While no evidence suggests that Stoker ever officially visited Bran castle, some stories rumor that he wrote Dracula with the dwelling in mind based on descriptions from others. Other sources say he knew nothing of the site and any similarities are purely coincidental. Either way, the castle lives in infamy.
